Handovers are underway at a new affordable housing development in Crewe, ahead of its expected completion this summer.
The development, called Latimer Fields, is being led by North West property developer, Breck on behalf of affordable housing provider Torus. It will comprise 104 high-quality affordable homes with a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes and one and two-bedroom apartments and maisonettes for shared ownership and affordable rent.
The completed units are now being handed over by Breck and the first residents moved in during January 2025.
Breck begun development in March 2023 after gaining planning approval from Cheshire East Council and the site is set for completion later in 2025, helping to reduce demand for affordable homes in the Crewe area.
Breck specialises in developing affordable houses between 25 and 250 units for registered housing providers as well as homes for open market sale on sites between 10 and 50 units. It currently has an active development pipeline of around 1,500 housing units across the North of England.
Andy Garnett, director, Breck, said: “It is heart-warming to see handovers already taking two years after we started on-site. Everybody deserves a home they can be proud of and this development will give that opportunity to people in the Crewe area.
“This is one of several active affordable housing sites we are currently building, and we expect to hand over more than 250 new units to registered providers across the North by the end of January next year.”
The total value of the development is more than £22m and the project has received funding from Homes England.
Chris Bowen, managing director, Torus Developments said: “Latimer Fields provides a variety of high-quality, much-needed affordable green properties in the area but also contributes financially to key infrastructure the wider community can benefit from such as health and education.
“The scheme, which was supported by over £5m of Homes England grant, provides an array of options with different property and tenure types to help as many people as possible find a home.”
