North West property developer Breck has begun construction of 205 affordable homes at a stalled brownfield site at Wharton Road, Winsford on behalf of Jigsaw Homes.
The site will include a mix of 1-4 bedroom houses and apartments which will all be made available for rent and will address the need for affordable homes in the Winsford area.
The first units are expected to be handed over to residents in early 2025 and the site is expected to be complete by the end of 2026.
The development, which has received funding from Homes England, originally gained planning permission in 2020 but has been stalled since its initial developer Lane End went into administration in 2022.
Breck was appointed to the £29m contract to complete the part-built site following a successful tender in October 2023.
Andy Garnett, director, Breck said: “Breck’s growing reputation for consistent delivery of high-quality affordable homes since our launch four years ago has seen us win tenders at steadily larger sites across the North West for registered providers.
“Winsford is a great example of our expertise and one of a number we have partnered with Jigsaw on.
“Given the site has been stalled for around two years, we have replaced some units to ensure every home is built to the latest standards. We’re now looking forward to progressing the development and handing this over to Jigsaw to help relieve the need for affordable homes in the Winsford area.”
The site is one of a number currently being brought forward by Breck in the Cheshire as part of a growing portfolio of North West affordable housing schemes for registered affordable housing providers.
The developer recently acquired a site on Croxton Lane, Middlewich with plans to develop 66 affordable homes.
