Breck Homes has exchanged contracts on a major site in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, with plans to deliver around 300 new affordable homes.
The development at Lees Hall Road forms part of the 400-acre Dewsbury Riverside scheme, which is allocated in Kirklees Council’s Local Plan.
It will feature a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses, alongside open space and play areas.
Nigel Robson, managing director – Yorkshire, Breck Homes, said: “We’re excited to progress plans for 300 high-quality affordable homes.
“There is significant demand for affordable housing across the district. A development of this scale can play a key role in meeting that need, while creating a new community for people and families.
“The acquisition underlines Breck’s commitment to making a positive impact across Yorkshire. We now look forward to working with Kirklees Council and local stakeholders as we develop our plans.”
The land is being acquired from the Diocese of Leeds, which welcomed the plans for affordable housing on the site.
A spokesperson for the Diocese of Leeds said: “The Diocese of Leeds is pleased to be playing a part in making sure people have access to affordable housing, in line with the goals of the Church of England’s ‘Coming Home’ report.
“The report, commissioned by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in response to the housing crisis, sets out actions for the Church, government and other stakeholders with a focus on building better communities and homes, not just houses.”
Property agent Stephensons acted on the transaction and the site represents Breck’s seventh Yorkshire development.
The developer is currently working in partnership with affordable housing provider Incommunities on three live sites in Bradford, totalling 107 homes.
In August, it received planning consent for 120 affordable homes at a former Lloyds Bank data centre in Farsley. Breck has also completed the unconditional purchases of a brownfield site in Stanningley and a four-acre site in East Bierley which, combined, will deliver a further 113 homes.
Last summer, Breck purchased a 4,400 sq ft office at Millshaw Park Industrial Estate, near Leeds, to accelerate its growth in the county.
