Northern property developer Breck Homes has submitted a planning application to West Lancashire Borough Council for its largest scheme to date, with plans to build 232 new affordable homes in Upholland.
Breck purchased the 21-acre former Ravenhead Brickworks site on Chequer Lane unconditionally last summer using its cash reserves. The site had been operated by UK brick manufacturer Ibstock until it was decommissioned three years ago.
The development will feature a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses, alongside one and two-bedroom apartments and will include a combination of rental and shared ownership homes.
Local residents will also benefit from significant public space including a new children’s play area.

“The proposed development is a unique opportunity – a large disused brownfield site in an area of significant need for affordable housing. Not only will it deliver a new community of affordable homes, but also new jobs throughout the construction process, as well as bringing investment in local education and other facilities.

Breck was formed in 2020 and is headquartered in Lancashire. To date, the company has delivered over 1,000 affordable homes with a further 2,200 in its development pipeline.
It is currently in advanced discussions with a registered affordable housing provider to acquire the Ravenhead development on completion.
